Contact calling me when I would rather they simply text or email!

Main Post:

Looking for advice on how to politely say - please do not call me, but rather text or email me? I'm in a job similar to an executive assistant, taking care of a lot of operational tasks for an international organisation. Sometimes I have to give my number out to people because we travel for work and people need to contact me quickly. I do not have a work phone (we don't have the funding for that), I have to use my personal one.

There is this one high level contact who seems allergic to email. He insists on calling me. I'm not in the habit of picking up random calls from people. We don't have a front desk or anything, this is a virtual office. He is the only person from work who will randomly call me - all others email me or schedule a meeting with me if we really have to talk.

I hate talking on the phone, and tbh it makes me feel like he thinks he is entitled to my time - eg call instead of email so I have to drop everything and answer. TBH I have started to just simply not answer when he calls. My phone is usually on DND. And what he calls about are never pressing matters, it's usually like, when is the next meeting, can you send me xyz, etc - usually things that have already been addressed by email.

If you can think of a polite way to say, please text or email, I would really appreciate your insight! Really happy to have found this community!

Top Comment: Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I’d let him call. As an EA, I don’t get to dictate peoples working styles, it’s my job to chameleon myself into each of their working styles. I also think by meeting people at their needs, you become even more valuable to them - they don’t want to lose the person that always answers their phones calls in a friendly way. At the end of the day, business still happens by phone, and I understand a persons desire for connection by phone over email or text sometimes. I would rather be known as the EA that answers the call and helps, rather than the EA who creates a rule of “don’t call her”.

Is email or SMS 2FA better for privacy and security?

Main Post:

I know both are not great, even though it is better to enable them if given the choice, but the answers online aren’t super clear. Is there an actual benefit to using one or the other, or are both comparable? What do you do if these are the only two options? Thank you, and have a good day!

Top Comment: Email, since you can definitely harden it more than SMS.

Infomaniak Free Mail vs Proton Mail ? What do you suggest?

Main Post:

Hi,

I've read many comments but still today I can't decide if Proton Mail is really safe and respectful of privacy as they say.

I'm also evaluating the Info Maniak service, what do you think?

Is Proton better or Infomaniak which offers a free email box?

Let me start by saying that by privacy I don't mean being invisible to everyone or to illegal activities, but simply having a service that respects my data and where I am not the product.

Let me know

Top Comment: Proton mail due to it being actually a privacy focused provider not just another free mail one. Proton mail does encrypt your mailbox but can not guarantee that the incoming emails and the email fields can not be logged by the government due to technical limits of email (it was not made for privacy). Also Infomaniak says in their terms that: "We never share your personal data with third parties without good reason." That is... well, not something you want to read if you are into privacy

How do you write the word "e-mail"?

Main Post:

This is kind of a lame question but how do you write the word e-mail on your website.

Apparently this has been in contention and there are different ways to write it too.

I was writing it as "eMail" (which was my personal preference) for my websites but then changed to "Email" since this is the style used by google and facebook.

Top Comment: When in doubt I go with the Guardian style guide : email. Their reasoning is that it's been long enough, we can drop the hyphen. Edit: A blog post from them on the issue: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/mind-your-language/2011/apr/04/language
